10 Real Food Smoothie Recipes



Over at the Natural Losers group we are participating in a 10 day real food challenge so I wanted to gather some good real food smoothies that are easy to make.  Please share your favorite recipes below in the comments and make sure to join our group for the challenge! 

Before we get to the recipes let me share some of my tips.  First, get creative.  You know what you like, don't be afraid to add to or take away from any of these recipes.  Just keep your ingredients as whole and real as possible.  If you do come up with your own please share with the rest of us! Secondly, you'll need a decent blender.  I love using the single serve cups with my Ninja Blender.  It is my favorite kitchen appliance hands down.  Finally, I suggest using frozen fruit as much as possible.  Ice tends to water down a smoothie and really messes with the taste.  I peel and chop bananas and store them in the freezer in a ziploc bag. Bananas turning brown? Even better! They're sweeter that way.  Just peel and freeze to save for later! 


Just Bananas 
Blend 2 frozen bananas, 1/2 cup each plain yogurt and milk, 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup, a pinch of cinnamon. Feel free to skip the honey as bananas are often sweet enough on their own.

Strawberry-Banana 
Blend 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup each plain yogurt and milk or juice, 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup. 

Peach-Mango-Banana
 Blend 1 cup each chopped fresh or frozen peaches and mango, 1 cup each plain yogurt and ice, 1/2 frozen banana

Kiwi-Strawberry 
Blend 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, 2 peeled kiwis, and 2 cups ice.

Blueberry-Banana 
Blend 1 frozen banana, 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk,  lime juice (optional) and 1 cup ice.

Super Green
Blend 2 cups fresh spinach, 1 cup frozen or fresh mango, 1 cup frozen pineapple, 2 frozen bananas and 2 cups milk of your choice.

Orange Creamsicle
Blend 1 1/2 cups frozen orange juice,  1/2 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup whole milk (or 1 cup total half and half in place of cream and milk), 2 - 3 tablespoons honey, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

Kale Banana
Blend 2 cups cooled coconut water, 1 frozen banana, 1/2 peeled and pitted avocado, 1/2 cup fresh kale, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, pinch of  cayenne pepper (optional)

Almond Berry
Blend 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 fresh or frozen banana, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 tablespoon almond butter, add water as needed to blend easily. 

Peanut Butter and Banana
Blend 1 frozen banana, 1/8 cup peanut butter, 1/2 cup milk of your choice and 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
